For Those About To Metal – I Salute You!

I am beyond excited to kick off and welcome you to our second Metal Heroes Summer Camp. Doing an event like this is something that has been on my mind for a very, very long time. I’m psyched.

Metal Heroes Summer Camp is designed to teach, motivate and inspire young metal-heads ages 12-19. All rock band instruments are welcome focusing on Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals. I hope you will join me on this 100% full-on metal journey.

I have always wanted to share my tour and music experiences with younger metal-heads and I’m really looking forward to open up the metal vault with you on so many levels and help you sharpen your skills to metal ninja perfection. While helping you with individual tasks, we’ll also learn how to make amazing progress when rehearsing with a band to talking about any musical challenges that you might face. I can guarantee this will be incredibly fun and you will learn a lot, too.

You also will get some great inside info on how the music business works, how to work well with others, all the while you fully immerse yourself in the music of the metal gods. We’ll be jamming together, hanging out together and everyone will get a chance to ask their questions and get plenty of one-on-one playing tips. And, of course, get ready to hear countless tour stories which more than likely involve your favorite rockers. We’ll close out the camp with a superb metal concert in front of your family and friends that will feature classic as well as current metal anthems.

Speaking of friends - I invited some, because what’s a camp without some pals … I’ll tell you all about it very soon.

So, if spending nearly a week at a beautiful resort like location while immersing yourself in all things metal sounds good to you – then let’s rock! This is for you.

This is an interactive workshop where Mike will perform several live songs from his solo recordings. Campers will have a chance to ask questions about any particular song part while Mike explains how he composes music with attention to parts flowing together including a discussion on key and groove changes. Campers will also get one on one attention to focus on any aspect of music they would like to additionally discuss.

In this great workshop, Mike will focus on a major sticking point that many guitarists have questions about – great guitar sound, both live and in the studio. Campers will have plenty of chances to ask questions as Mike demonstrates various effects pedals and their use in playing metal. Campers will have a chance to hear how each effect sounds and find out the purpose behind each unit in the sound chain. Additionally Mike will talk about guitar cables, guitar heads and pre-amps, power amps, speaker cabinets, choice of guitar picks and much tone. Mike will additionally talk about guitar strings and a proper care to extend their life. This is a very informative lab that offers timeless tips that can be applied immediately.

THE METAL MOTIVATION MESSAGE From C.J. Ortiz / The Metal Motivator

C.J.’s uncompromising approach to personal achievement and lasting change is an amazing force for not only metal-heads, but anyone who wants to stay motivated and achieve their maximum potential. Campers will be able to listen to an inspiring, exclusive CD made by C.J. for the Metal Heroes Summer Camp 2105. Sit back while we crank up the volume with an awesome message that will help you set and obtain your goals and give your music your best. As a bonus, everyone will receive a complimentary copy of the message on a CD to take home. A short discussion between the campers and Metal Mike will follow. C.J.’s message is sure to inspire and motivate all campers long after the camp is done.

A camp favorite! Time to relax from all the band rehearsals and activities and enjoy an amazing metal themed movie or a metal concert DVD on a huge movie theater sized screen. Campers will have the chance to check out some actual tour mementos from Mike including backstage signage, guitar picks, even stage clothing.

Campers will have a chance to plug in their iPods and show their new friends and instructors some of the metal they have been listening to lately! This is great fun as they also discover what others are listening to as well. What's new? What's old? Everyone will join in on a fun discussion about what we like about our favorite metal bands!

Welcome to the part of the camp where the campers will draw tickets in order to snag some awesome items. Some giveaways include T-shirts, stickers, strings and guitar straps from several companies that Mike works with. Some items are awesome one-offs such as the How To Be A Man book autographed by the man himself, Duff McKagan. Not to be missed.

THE METAL DYI MARKETER WORKSHOP With Steve Ceragno From Dropcards

Steve Ceragno from the download card company Dropcards will be stopping in to share his knowledge about self-marketing your music and important steps you can take to make sure your music gets the best shot at getting heard. He will also give tips on making positive and successful business contacts and other much needed skills needed to thrive as a musician. Public relations, radio promotion and how to get the most out of your merchandise table tips are on the menu. Steve is a VP of business development for Dropcards and has worked on countless projects with various metal labels such as Century Media and Metal Blade. He worked on developing download cards for the biggest bands in the world including Metallica. Steve started his career at EMI Music Marketing and has plenty of great advice to share with our campers.
